Local governments said no
These local governments have said no to deregulating radioactive waste and materials
If your county or city is on this list, tell the NRC. Your local government has resolutions against deregulating radioactive waste and materials, and your comment can say so.
Background
Dozens of towns, counties, and cities have passed resolutions rejecting the deregulation of radioactive waste and materials. Every effort to deregulate radioactive waste and materials since 1986 has been rejected.
In the 1980s and 90s, these policies were called Below Regulatory Concern (BRC). In the Energy Policy Act of 1992, Congress formally revoked the NRC’s 1986 and 1990 Below Regulatory Concern policy statements. The proposed exemptions are the same idea, and they are now back before the NRC.
Live in a listed county or city? Tell the NRC your local government said no, and that this rule is controversial.
